TEC Star in Valencia for the mid Term meeting of the FP7 european project NanomicexNovember 4, 2013
TEC STAR is going on in research about the safe use of nanomaterials, which has led in recent years to participation in two European funded projects (FP7).
Part of the planned activities of one of these (NANOMICEX* – www.nanomicex.eu) consists in the visit of some technicians and researchers of two major European institutes involved in the study and applications of nanomaterials and their impact on the health of workers: the Technological Institute for Packaging and Logistics (ITENE – Spain) and the Institute of Occupational Medicine (IOM – Great Britain).
The technicians of the two important institutions measured the particulates in suspension in laboratory environments, during some stages of manufacturing processes of nanomaterials for pigments and paints, controlling both the size distribution and the concentration of particles in the air.
As reported by the technicians, the measured values are in standard range, showing that the procedures followed during daily activities and isolation/filtering devices are effective in ensuring the safety of workers at the workplace.
The results of this monitoring activity will be included in next report of the NANOMICEX project and they will be presented in the mid-term meeting, which will be held at the headquarters of ITENE in Valencia (ES) on 10-11th of October 2013.
We will bring an excerpt of the results of analysis carried out in our laboratories, in days following this meeting, so stay tuned!
