STF

DESCRIPTION

STF is a treatment for Kevlar and aramid fiber fabrics, able to increase resistance to punch and bullets, even in the form of splinters.

STF creates a coating on the fibers and between the meshes of the fabric, producing an impenetrable barrier to sharp objects reaching the surface of the fabric at high speed.

STF is supplied in 20kg Plastic Buckets and 220kg Drums.

Main Properties

CHARACTERISTICS

  • Alcohol-based liquid nanocomposite
  • NOT classic liquid, called "thixotropic"
  • Low weight

ADVANTAGES

  • Increased wetting of the aramid fibers and penetration between the meshes of the fabric
  • Increased stiffness only when bumping with high-velocity sharp objects
  • Useful on fabrics for body protection, but also on screens for aerospace vehicles

BENEFITS

  • Possible industrial application on fabric by immersion systems
  • Transformation of fabric in a rigid shield, only when struck by high speed objects
  • Protection against high-velocity impacts from sharp objects such as awls or debris in space

Storage and shelf life

STF must be stored in the original packaging in a dry and cool place (with a temperature not higher than 25°C and not lower than 5°C). In this way the product has a shelf life of 12 months.

Usage tips

STF is a concentrated product to be diluted, in the percentage of 12.3% of STF and 87.7% of ethanol.
Once poured in ethanol, mix STF with a mechanical stirrer until the complete dissolution of the product.

APPLICATION:

Immerse the Kevlar or aramid fiber fabric in diluted STF solution for about 1 minute, making sure that the fabric is well wetted.

Remove the fabric from the solution and squeeze it in order to eliminate the excess product and increase the penetration of the liquid between the meshes of the fabric (for example with a steel cylinder, applying about 12-15kg of pressure).

Dry the treated tissue at room temperature for 48 hours or in an oven (with suitable ventilation and aspiration for flammable solvents) at a temperature lower than 80°C for a few hours, until the complete evaporation of the solvent.

STF can be applied on rolls of Kevlar or aramid fibers, in a continuous way by immersion on Foulard treatment machines (make sure it is safe to use baths with flammable solvents).

Once the fabric has passed through the bath at the lowest possible speed, squeeze it through the rollers to remove the excess, then pass it into an oven at a maximum temperature of 80°C.

ATTENTION: consult the product Safety Data Sheet.
